IPBES: businesses can become agents of nature-positive change
The first-ever assessment by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) on the relationship between business and nature was approved at the IPBES plenary in Manchester and published on 9 February 2026.
The report, written by 79 experts from 35 countries, concludes that current business conditions do not support halting biodiversity loss, and that structural change, driven by governments, is needed. At the same time it shows that businesses already have the knowledge and opportunities to act in ways that are good for nature, and it lists more than 100 concrete actions for businesses, governments, financial institutions and civil society.
