Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Biólogos (CGCOB)

The Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Biólogos (CGCOB) is the representative and coordinating body of the Official Colleges of Biologists in Spain. It represents the profession of biologist at national level and brings together all territorial Colleges of Biologists.

Spain has sixteen regional Colleges of Biologists, in Andalusia, Aragón, La Rioja-Navarra, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Madrid, Valencia, the Basque Country, Extremadura, Galicia, Murcia and Asturias. Each College is represented in the CGCOB’s Plenary Assembly, and a Permanent Commission manages the Council’s day-to-day work.

Activities

The CGCOB’s work covers the regulation and certification of the profession, training programmes, advocacy on legislation affecting biologists and coordination with universities. It also contributes the Spanish professional perspective to European cooperation on the recognition and mobility of biologists.
