European Biotech Act: draft report in the Parliament
On 15 June the rapporteurs of the European Parliament presented their joint draft report on the European Biotech Act, the Commission’s package to strengthen biotechnology and biomanufacturing in the EU, with faster clinical trials, investment instruments and regulatory sandboxes.
The most contested point is the extension of patent-related protection for medicines. The environment and legal committees advised deleting it, while the lead committees want to keep the principle. MEPs tabled more than 3,000 amendments. A vote in the lead committees is expected in December 2026. EU Reporter
