Biology Week 2026 in the United Kingdom

Harm Jaap Smit

This month our British member, the Royal Society of Biology (RSB), celebrates Biology Week: an annual celebration of biology with hundreds of events across the United Kingdom. Many events are free, and many can be followed online from anywhere in Europe.

A few highlights from the programme (8–18 October 2026):

  • 10 October: UK Fungus Day, a celebration of the fungal world, online and at venues across the UK.
  • 14 October: the Biology Week Networking and Awards Ceremony at the House of Commons in London, celebrating the achievements of RSB members.
  • 16 October: Polar Perspectives, an online webinar with the British Antarctic Survey on science at the South Pole.
  • Citizen science projects such as Blackbird Detectives and BrockWatch, school and STEM-club talks, museum exhibitions and many local nature walks and surveys.

The full programme is on the RSB events page. We have added a selection to our agenda. Does your organisation organise something similar? Let us know, so that we can share it with the other ECBA members.
