About the Speaker
![]() | Dr. Klaus Thuneke is Senior Research Associate and Deputy Head of the Department of Renewable Fuels and Materials at the Technology and Support Centre (TFZ) in Straubing, Germany. He specializes in sustainable fuel alternatives and propulsion systems for agricultural machinery, with a focus on technical, environmental, economic, and social dimensions. His work also includes developing biodegradable, sprayable materials to replace plastic film in agriculture. |
What to expect
Dr. Thuneke will present the current state and goals of energy use in agricultural machinery and review the most promising alternatives to fossil diesel, including:
- Vegetable oil fuel
- Biodiesel
- Bio-CNG & Bio-LNG
- HVO
- E-fuels
- Hydrogen
- Battery-electric systems
He will compare these technologies and discuss their advantages and challenges in real agricultural settings. Using a future scenario, he’ll also explore how the energy mix in agriculture might evolve and what actions can support a climate-friendly transition.

Through blended formal and informal learning opportunities we will support the development of whole and open-school approaches that offers pathways to transformative learning experiences for Sustainability Citizenship. As a Teacher Academy, SYNAPSES is funded by the Erasmus+ programme to create European partnerships and promote cooperation between teacher education institutions and training providers.
